Sunday Funnies - "Stewardesses"

Interesting, short little 1970s video from "TV Days" about female flight attendants and how they got started in the airlines, and how they were discriminated against--love the hats, too!

Theme Thursday - "Tags"

The challenge for this week's Theme Thursday was to make a tag--I've never done one before, so this really was a challenge for me, and it took forever to get it finished! I'm not super happy with my first effort, but hope, with practice, to get better at this. Happy Weekend, everyone!

ATC Wednesday - "Flowers"

Flowers are blooming everywhere in my yard right now; snapdragons, petunias, lavender, daisies, verbena, pansies, violets, lilies, geraniums, hibiscus, roses. Roses are my favorites! Here is my little ATC for this week's ATC Wednesday theme of flowers.

Ten on Tuesday-Celebs You're Tired Of

Here's my list for yesterday's Ten on Tuesday:

Paris Hilton
Myley Cyrus
Britney Spears
Heidi & Spencer
Lyndsay & Sam
Kate Gosselin
Octo-Mom
Amy Winehouse
Tori Spelling
Brad, Angelina, & Jennifer

Not only am I tired of seeing and hearing about these people, I'm sick to death of the way the media goes nuts over them. Several of these celebrities have absolutely no talent, and yet there they are, being fawned over. There are so many worthwhile things the media can report about, yet they choose this, over and over. I can turn off my television, yes, but I can't stop going to the grocery store and seeing their faces plastered all over the magazines and tabloids! Like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz says, "What a world, what a world!"

GOTHIC ARCHES - "Garden Sprites"

Here's my submission for the Gothic Arches challenge this week! The photo looks much better if you click on it; I used vintage paper I got from an old children's book for the background, plus stamps, paint, and chalk ink to accent, and Paper Posies to embellish.

Sunday Funnies - Dancing With the Stars, Fred & Ginger Style!

Here's a clip from the 1936 movie, "Swing Time"- if you don't have time to watch the whole thing, then fast-forward to the end and watch Ginger Rogers!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister Lisa! Happy Friday Everyone!

Today is my "baby" sister's birthday, and I'm posting a scan of the birthday card I made for her. She is just a wonderful sister and a terrific wife, mother, auntie, etc. I love her so much! The darling image was purchased from Lisa's Altered Art (not the same Lisa; but you should visit her site--she's a sweetheart!) and I wish my Lisa a wonderful day and year ahead. The sentiment inside reads, ". . . and sweet wishes all year!"

ATC Wednesday - "Angel"

Of course I'm late again, but here's my little ATC for this week's ATC Wednesday challenge theme of ANGEL. The little baby image I used is from Carol Anne's Boutique--she always shares the most beautiful images with everyone!

Sunday Funnies - Helium, Skinny Legs, and Tap-Dancing Toes!

Here's a curious little video--bear with the singing for 1 1/2 minutes, and then it gets pretty funny--the ladies sound like they've been gulping helium from a child's balloon, and then the one gal starts tap dancing on her toes--the end of the video really made me laugh! Happy Sunday, everyone!

Another ATC!

I did this for yesterday's ATC Wednesday-the theme is music! The background of my little piece is vintage sheet music from the 1920s, which I glued to a playing card and then painted with acrylic and highlighted with chalk ink. I've been very busy this morning . . . watching the birds in my backyard! I have two mockingbird parents who have been busily flying back and forth, feeding their 4 babies, and a robin who has been eating the peanut butter & cornmeal balls I left for him in a dish, along with red-winged blackbirds, beautiful red house finches, mourning doves, and a hummingbird, all eating from my feeders! I had a quail perched on my fence yesterday--what fun!

GOTHIC ARCHES - "Little Girls"

This Sunday's theme for Gothic Arches was to make an arch featuring little girls. I had problems with allergies and a migraine yesterday, so I finished this up today. The darling vintage image is from Elizabeth over at "The Last Door Down the Hall" blog. She generously shares the most beautiful images with everyone and usually posts new ones on Thursdays. Her blog is really wonderful; she also shares recipes and quotes and art tips. Hop on over to see her! (As usual, my photo isn't the greatest--there is really pretty glitter on the flowers in the girls' hair, and on the butterfly. You can kind of see it if you click on the photo for a closer look!)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!

Sunday Funnies - "Rock'em Sock'em Robots"

My 10 year-old grandson loves to play video games, and when he comes over to our house, he always reminds me that he's not allowed to play Grandpa's video games if they aren't rated "E" for everyone. Some of the games my adult sons and my husband play on the Sony Playstation 3 are just ridiculous, I think, they're so violent--(never in front of the kids, though!) and I've never been a fan of those. I was thinking about the "good old days" when we were kids and how we didn't have video games, and about how we weren't exposed to that stuff . . . and THEN I found this old commercial! Well, of course we were exposed to violence, we were just not so technically advanced back then. Anyway, I laughed all the way through this video . . . so much for the good old days!

New ATCs for Challenges

I finished these ATCs early this morning; as usual, I'm scrambling to get a little art done in the midst of everything else--I'd love to do more, but grandmotherly duties call right now, so Gabby, (my 4 year-old granddaughter), and I are going to go outside and plant some flower seeds on this beautiful, sunny morning!

The first one is for TMTA's theme of "Peacock" this week; I wasn't sure what to do with this theme, but then I remembered that I'd taken photos of a peacock we saw when we were visiting Daffodil Hill last year:

This next one is for Crazy Amigo Challenge's "Fly With Me" theme (and the image is from Paper Whimsy):

The last is for ATC Wednesday's challenge theme of "Womanhood" yesterday (stamp is from Hero Arts):

Sunday Funnies - Vintage Drive-In Intermission Ad

Remember the drive-in movies? When I was little, my parents took us to the drive-in a lot. We'd go to the Van Nuys theater (info here) or the Victory Theater (go here for interesting info on this one) in the San Fernando Valley, (Southern California), to see a double feature, and, because seeing 2 movies at a time in those days was common, we kids would get dressed in our jammies and robes, and my mom would make popcorn, putting it into a big paper grocery bag, and we'd all excitedly pile into our station wagon. I remember my dad stopping at the entry booth to pay (in those days you only paid per car, not per person), and then he'd find the perfect place to park in the big, asphalt-covered lot. Then he would fiddle with those speakers that were hung on poles, rolling down the car windows to hang them on the window and get them tuned in. There was a swing-set down by the front of the lot, and a big snack bar in the middle, and lots of other cars and families parked in the "stadium" lot. To a little kid, it seemed to take forever for the sun to finally go down and the sky to turn dark enough for the movie to start. I clearly remember the intermission commercials, one of which was this exact one that appears below. Later, I would sleepily look at the starry sky out the car window late at night when my dad was driving us home, and thinking that it was the most wonderful and mysterious thing, those planets and stars way up there, shining and twinkling at me. Ah, what sweet memories!

Theme Thursday - "Hats or Crowns"

This week's challenge at Theme Thursday is to create something featuring a crown or hat. I made an ATC; the background paper already had beautiful glittered flowers and swirls on it, but I added more glitter on the Artchix image I used, and glittered around the edges of the ATC with crystal Stickles. After enhancing the lady's cheeks and lips with colored chalks and adding a gold fabric lace crown, some cream edging lace, crystals, a little stamping, a K and Company paper flower, and Colorbox ink accents, I was done!
