Memorial Day was originally called "Decoration Day" and was officially proclaimed "Memorial Day" in early May of 1868; when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery on May 30th, 1868, this holiday was first observed. We give thanks to and remember our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. God Bless the brave men and women who fought and died for our country so we could be free!
